The implementation process has begun! An accent wall was painted in my classroom over the holiday break!
BEFORE AFTER
What is my new classroom REALLY going to look like?
With the new furniture arriving in a few short weeks, it is time to take a reflective look at what my classroom is REALLY going to look like in April. Not just the design, color, and placement, but how teaching and learning styles will change.
First, I completed an "Opportunities Map", which allowed me to dissect the current procedures that take place in my classroom (from the second students walk in the door, to the second they exit) and how these procedures will be impacted with the newly designed space.

Next, how will simple tasks such as taking attendance, managing supplies & technology, where exactly to sit work in the new environment. Creating a "Procedure Map" allowed me to think specifically about how current routines and new routines of the classroom will change once the room is transformed into a more flexible space. One area I focused on was entrance and exit procedures. How will students know where to sit? Can they choose or are they assigned? Does today's task involve collaboration, communication, or independent research? What supplies do I need to work productively throughout the hour? Which Chromebook do I use?
